Widemouth, going on tour.
Alllo allo allo it’s me, innit. We moved our newsletter operations to Substack, because all of the newsletters will be publicly archived, and some of our beautiful and wise friends pointed out that one day there may be Widemouth die-hards who would love the ability to go into the archives and relive some of our early times. And I had to concede that point. I’m sorry to anyone who really struggled to sign up on our other newsletter platform, whose hard work has been rendered meaningless.
I’m writing this on the couch in Lily Mitchell’s lovely home in St. Louis, MO, drinking coffee and watching her four dogs wander in and out of the living room. Charlotte (Lily’s gf) and I amtraked down from Chicago yesterday to surprise Lily for her birthday; Lily knew Charlotte was coming but didn’t know I was coming. Lily came to pick Charlotte up, Charlotte said “oops I forgot something in the station,” Lily unwittingly followed Charlotte into the little waiting area, and I emerged from behind a tall plant and said “oh hi Lily.” It was awesome. She was very surprised.
But onto Widemouth business: we are going on tour!

Mak made the poster (danggg). Mak also is working on merch, that we’ll be selling at all of these shows; she’s thrifting a bunch of plain shirts and hats (and totes?) and also carving out a bunch of stamps on linocut and will soon be printing the stamps onto the shirts. That means each item of merchandise is ENTIRELY UNIQUE. A collector’s item, even. Sure to increase in value.
Anyway, we’re still working on some of the details of the tour, and will be playing with a couple of other bands most likely, but we wanted to get an announcement out so that people can plan for it. We’ll be taking the Band Van, and bringing Cleo, and I’m just simply so excited.
A couple other items of note:
Mak Attack has a song coming out on August 24! It’s called Insufferable, and she recorded it with many of the same folks that she made Call It a Home with. Pre-save here.
We just had our (likely) last mixing session with Sam on Tuesday for our EP. It’s coming the fuck together. We’ve decided to call it Well.
In the last newsletter, I said that Lily was coming to Chicago for Pride. I was tactfully omitting the fact that Lily was coming to Chicago to visit her girlfriend Charlotte, because I wasn’t sure how public that information was. I have since been informed that I needn’t have been so tactful, and that Lily was, in fact, visiting her girlfriend Charlotte.
I also said in the last newsletter that Levi was in Montclair, NJ, and missing both the MJ Lenderman and Adrianne Lenker shows in Chicago. I was wrong. He went to the Adrianne Lenker show and had a blast. Sorry Levi.
Newest Band Member: all 7 of Lily Mitchell’s pets, oldest to youngest: Archie, Bennie, Weda the Tiny Dog, Maverick, Ophelia, Artemis, Jason. Mostly dogs, some reptiles, one cat.
