Oh hey there! This is Lily (lit drummer) checking in for my first ever substack debut. This past week I have traveled across the great atlantic ocean and back to go visit my wonderful girlfriend Charlotte who is studying abroad in Copenhagen for the semester (booooo come back please). Firstly, I wanna shoutout booking.com as the mvp of the trip. I am now obsessed with finding the best deals, so hit me up for your travel needs. Ok now for the trip breakdown:
Day 1
After a reunion for the history books, Charlotte took me to “Alice” where I tried the infamous bolle med ost, which is butter and cheese on bread. Simple yet spectacular. From there we headed to Frederiksberg park and had a super scenic walk. We even went to the back end of the nearby zoo where we got to sneak a peek at the elephants. Naturally, we grew very attached to the baby one who we named Carl. We then went around the main city area and got some deeeeelicious ice cream. I also got to try flødeboller which is a fluffy, marshmallowy inside with a hard chocolate outside and I could eat a million of them. We finished the night by cheffing up some classic gnocchi (thank you Jamie for the recipe) and playing board games.
Day 2
The next day started at an absurdly early hour as we headed to the airport for Athens. It was largely a travel day, but after settling into our air bnb (that we definitely found with such ease and it wasn’t difficult at all…) we set out on the town. We had an amazing Mediterranean situation for dinner which included ouzo, the national drink of Greece. It was something that’s for sure! The food was so superb. Honestly, the food being superb was the case for the whole trip. Never a dissatisfied stomach to be had. That night we went to the bars and talked to these two ridiculously weird british guys. They were brothers and one made “psychedelic hip hop music.” Very very strange characters of the night. We then switched bars and they were playing such lit music. That DJ deserved every gold star out there. We danced, had some drinks, and went back to the air bnb very content :)
Day 3
After a pretty slow start to our morning, we headed to a brunch spot called “Wanna Flirt?” where we had sublime pancakes and a yogurt bowl. From there we visited the National Garden of Athens. It was like a maze with surprises on every corner. We found weirdly large ducks, goats, and the BEST playground ever with such a good slide. Our stomachs were filled with yet another scrumptious greek spread for dinner and then it was back to the apartment. I have never seen the movie Hercules before and when Charlotte found out she was astounded. So of course our night was rounded out by watching Hercules and eating snacks.
Day 4
This was ruins day. We visited all the different sites like the Acropolis, Parthenon, Ancient Agora, and so forth. As Charlotte pointed out it was very surreal to think about all the people who have walked there for centuries before us. I guess we are very approachable looking people because we took soooo many pictures for other people. Highlight was this group of guys who asked Charlotte to record a tik tok video of them just standing there on a rock. It was very funny to witness. We had another glorious night out on the town where we returned to the DJ award winning bar. Unfortunately it was a different DJ this time who didn't quite live up to the other one, but a very fun night nonetheless.
Days 5 and 6
Last day in Athens :( We said goodbye to our air bnb and made our way to “Little Kook” for breakfast. It’s a themed restaurant with an overwhelming amount of decorations and even the waiters dress up in costume. This time of year it’s Halloween themed. We then hiked up the very steep Lycabettus Hill. There was a great view of the city and the Acropolis at the top. We mainly roamed around the rest of the day as we awaited our flight back to Copenhagen. Minus a very minor inconvenience of me leaving my phone on the bus as we headed back to Charlotte’s apartment (thank you to Charlotte my shining knight who furiously biked after the bus to retrieve my phone), it was a chill end to the trip. We got bolle med ost one last time before I had to go back to Chicago. It was a very sad goodbye, but she’ll be back home in a month woooo!!
Thank you to everyone for reading about my European excursion. I am very happy to be back making music with the band and can’t wait for the EP release next week!
